Daniel Starczynowski
Daniel Starczynowski, PhD, is a cancer researcher and scientific leader at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center. He holds the Katherine Stewart Waters Endowed Chair in Hematologic Malignancies and helps lead several major programs focused on understanding and treating blood cancers, including the Advanced Leukemia Therapies and Research Center.
Dr. Starczynowski received his PhD from Boston University and completed his postdoctoral training at the British Columbia Cancer Research Centre. His research focuses on myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML), two serious blood cancers that often require improved treatment options.
His laboratory studies how changes in specific genes and inflammatory pathways contribute to the development and progression of these diseases. By uncovering how abnormal immune signaling and other cellular processes drive MDS and AML, his team aims to identify new therapeutic targets and develop strategies that can lead to more effective and personalized treatments for patients. Dr. Starczynowski’s work has also advanced understanding of early disease states such as clonal hematopoiesis—an age-associated condition that can increase the risk of blood cancers—helping guide new ideas for early detection and intervention.
